Lessons from: Being back home
An attempt to glean meaning from post-travel blues.
Never work the day after getting home – or the day after that if possible [allow time in advance to recover from potential sickness, jet lag, post-travel blues etc.]
Unpack your suitcase straight away
Do your washing as soon as you can
Sit in the sun [again, if possible]
Buy flowers for the house, even just a stem or two
Create folders and organise all your travel pics
Don’t over-commit to plans
Hold onto the feeling of being somewhere else by going places in Melbourne by yourself
Enjoy the little novelties like being able to sit at the kitchen table with a coffee, or making dinner at home
Don’t feel bad about not doing something everyday – enjoy slowing down
Melbourne coffee [and drinking water] is superior in every way
Don’t fill the void by buying things
Try to keep reading
And keep writing, home can be just as interesting
Enjoy being surrounded by people who you know, and who know you
Embrace the familiarity [don’t resent it]
